Depends upon price, condition and service history. A well looked after example would be nice.

If it’s manual then check to see whether or not the clutch and flywheel have been replaced as yet. If not then they’ll be due soon and will cost quite a few quid.

If it’s automatic, then you’ll need to make sure that the auto box is good and whether or not the transmission fluid has ever been changed.

Either way, a D5 engine in a Focus-sized body will be a lot of fun.

In the end, as it’s an 11 year-old car with high mileage it will come down to the actual car involved.

Most importantly, don’t let the idea obscure the reality of the example that you’re considering.

Its manual.. I tried to get as much info as.possible from the dealer.. just been on the phone with them..

Its had cambelt done.. it's got 10 services.. they didn't say anything about clutch.. it looks very clean and tidy and seems looked after..

I mean even if everything is ok it's still a gamble never know what could go wrong..

The only thing makes me a little apprehensive is because its Px just makes me feel that there will be something hidden which they are not telling me because if not then why would they advertise it as a px to clear

15 days ago that car failed its MOT. I highly doubt that the items mentioned in this list have been fixed with good quality components.

Especially the driveshaft.... Driveshafts in these cars cost A LOT of money. No way has this dealer put a proper driveshaft on the car.

I'm sure some of these used car sales places find ways to get cars to pass an MOT because their 'mate' is the MOT Tester.

If it were me then I'd avoid the car and the dealer.

Shame, really as the idea of the car was lovely.

Yes I also looked up the mot history and then spoke to them after and asked if they had fixed all of these things and they said yes ...

And about dealers finding ways to pass the cars I feel exactly the same.. they advertise cars saying " full mot on sale "

My daughter asked the dealer if the cam belt on the saab she was looking at had been changed. Yes he assured her. 8 months later it snapped totaling the engine.

The drive shaft could of been fixed with a new joint, that could not be a Volvo part as volvo will only sell you the complete shaft, the new tyre will be a budget or part worn and the lamps were probably just bulbs but indicate the previous owner never took a look around the car before driving off. Makes you wonder if they ever opened the bonet to check anything.
The leaking caliper is more serious in that it demonstrated the previous owner had no regard for the car at all, serviced once a year and ignored between services.

In my book it's a walk away unless stupid cheap and you feel it's worth a gamble at the price. It could be a very good car, but how long are you thinking of keeping it? If it's a run it till it dies it would be worth the money to make it good if you can diy, if it's a short term keep then avoid, you will never see the benefit of your money even if you diy. If you are paying for the work walk now as it will never be cost effective as a motor.

As I always say, no 2 used cars are the same and a used car is only as good as its been cared for.

You'd have better luck finding one being sold privately.
