That seems to be the problem,as with a new battery there was no problem, cleaned the brushes on altinator as it didnt charge battery at all, went for a drive today to charge battery, and hope this will sort out the problem. Unfortunetly the car has developed yet another fault since today, the 5th gear (i have a button for it on my gear stick) keeps disengaging, i.e. i put it into 5th and it would change down to 4th and back to 5th by itself, sometimes 5 6 times in a row. hope its nothing to serious.

regards
duckula

Nope, Read the 700/900 faq about overdrive.
Keep your diesel... I miss mine... I want another one soon.

It's just a relay that's going bad. The automatic cars have them too and they go bad just as often. An easy repair, but one of the reasons I converted my car from an automatic to a true 5-speed, no electrical relays.

I also have a (Recently bought) 940 estate. Its a 1995 940S and the alarm has been disconnected and I am beginning to see why from these posts! It has a remote but has "Disconnected" written on the Alarm handbook that came with the car. I was considering getting it reconnected but after reading this maybe not!

On the subject of your 5th gear erraticness, I had a similar problem with a 740 Auto belonging to my father. It turned out to be the solonoid which was the same as a Vauxhall Senator and cost about £35 I seem to remember. If you search my posts, you can find the thread.

Beware, many so called "Garages" said the solonoid was fine and prophesised all sorts of doom and gloom so don't beleive all the doom mongers!

Good luck!!
