From memory, there are two bolts through from the HU opening which hold the climate unit. The two bolts at the back of the HU mounting frame are the only ones that I can remember.

There's a long groove at the top of the headunit which holds the top part of the unit in against the lip of the dashboard. Once you undo the bottom two bolts for the headunit, pull the bottom of the unit towards you and slightly downwards to disengage the unit from the big groove at the top.

To refit, put the unit in, clearing any wires from being pinched and slide the top part in to the long groove first then push the bottom back in and reattach the screws.

Exclamation Step back in time ...

Huge thread resurrection but I'm after a bit of help;

I have just purchased a 2003 V70 which is currently fitted with the HU-850 unit, going to be swapping that out for one of the new Sony double din devices XAV-602BT ...

Having researched this a little I have come across the 'Dietz' Can bus interfaces, I have asked a question via email but awaiting an answer as yet. The only one listed on the site now is the tenth generation version, which sates it only works with 05 and above.

Can anybody help me? I really want to keep the steering wheel functionality

Thank you.

Hi Mark

Have a look at this interface Connect2

From what it says in the write up it may also support handbrake and reverse signals, I can't say 100% that is does and you may not need these anyway.

It must be fairly new as it wasn't around when I did my install. I've used Connect2 kit on other vehicles, there customer support are OK so you could check with them to make sure the interface does what you need.

There is a Sony patch lead listed to go with the interface and I've also fitted the same Sony unit in another car if you need any help with that.

Hi all.
Thought that I'd rather bring this one back to life instead of creating a new thread...
My hu-850 is dying inthe usual way. I tried resoldering and it worked for an hour or so, then resoldered again and it worked for 20mins. Now it works when it wants and how it wants.
I didn't want to change the stock look but I guess I want to now.
In the beginning of this thread I've read about original volvo din fascia and that would be great- at least plastics would match- but I've no idea how to get one for 2006 s60. Just call the dealer?
Another question is regarding canbus- I don't have a sat nav or reversing sensors so I'm guessing I would only need it for steering wheel controls and dimming? Am I right? I'm not fussy here- I want good music and that's all.
Third thing is internal amp- the radio that I'm after has either built in amp or amp outputs- it would be easier to use internal amp but I am considering bypassing if that's better (but my way of bypassing would be bridging cables under the seat where the amp is...)
Your thoughts on it?
Thanks
Robert

Hi. What is the process to disconnect the battery prior to doing this work. Is there any pitfalls to look out for? Cheers

pitfall1: you have to empty the crap out of the boot to get to battery.

tip2: when you reconnect the battery leave the key in pos 2- this will eliminate sparking

  • wait for at least five minutes, after removing the key and last door closed or open
  • disconnect the negative lead
  • disconnect the positive lead
  • remove/switch battery
  • set ignition to pos2
  • make sure, no one is inside the car
  • connect the positive lead
  • connect the negative lead

That's what VIDA says.

While this thread is on the front page, any members replaced their hu- xxx unit with an after market one?
