just finished. grand total of $2 for the rod which i cut down to size
  • two torx screws for interior handle, one in light
  • trim is pretty easy, don't stress but still be patient
  • DO take off your license plate, bracket and all
  • DO take out the exterior lights of the assembly
  • i preferred removing the wiper motor bolts for ease of access
  • did end up breaking the little "tang" that helps retain the cable pull, i taped it for good measure during reassembly
  • using a punch, i was able to get purchase and drift it out
  • try going back and forth on each side (be careful not to smash the plug for the lights)
  • WD40 is your friend
  • a vice/pliers are also your friend one it's out far enough, twisting and pulling
  • spring was rusted in the assembly, we'll see how that goes
  • DO clean the spring/handle assembly, it's not that difficult
  • DON'T forget to clean the exterior body while you have everything out/off
  • reassembly is the reverse of disassembly

glad to be done with this. had been sticking for over three years. car spent its first 9 years of it's life in maine

cheers

Default I can't view the photos - can anyone advise why

This post is exactly what I need as my tailgate is stuck locked but I cannot see the photographs. All I see is a large icon saying 3rd party hosting has been temporarily disabled, etc. etc. with an icon of a gauge with a photobucket web address. Can anyone help me see the photos?

I did mine a couple of months ago following the below guide from youtube . I used stainless steel rod to replace HOWEVER the return spring was severely corroded and snapped when disassembling everything.LINK

I bought these from amazon and once the tangs were cut to size were a lovely fit. LINK

Yes I have 9 spare BUT I ordered them from Amazon on a Sunday afternoon and had them the next morning.

If I was doing this again I would replace the spring as a matter of course and have one ready prior to stripping the lock down.

I complained to the dealer that the tailgate handle was sticking before I parted with my cash, I was told they would sort it out. When I parted with the cash and before driving off checked it and it was sticking, so back in and complained again. They said they would sort it again, so when it went in for a couple of jobs they tried again and told me it was sorted... No it wasn't so I told them it needed a new handle and it went in again and had a new handle fitted

Default Perfect repair!

Followed the instructions yesterday and everything went perfectly. Handle works like new. Hardest part was drifting out the old rod. USed WD-40 to loosen

Can anyone confirm that 2007- XC70 has same size rod and similiar steps?
Currently looking at the pics, it seems different than shown in this mod installation video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fckJNMK6PwY

Thanks.
