Default Clonk

So my S60 D5 (185 Euro 4) has the all too familiar clonk as I accelerate / decelerate.

The front and rear vac mounts all hold vacuum so I'm assuming they're ok and I've just replaced the upper and lower tie bar bushes with poly

I've read the thread about poly subframe inserts ..... where else should I be looking?

Driveshaft bolts?..... and is the gearbox a good 10mm clear of the subframe?

the engine mount on the right hand side under the front pulley, as when worn there is a rubber bar inside the mount that hits the subframe and makes a clonk, if you hold he engine up with a jack and a bit of wood and remove the mount then have a look on the subframe you will see if it has been hitting it,

Agree with bonefish re. driveshafts - just replaced both of mine before its MOT as a CV joint was on its way out - clonk gone and no snatching when accelerating in reverse.

I do t tho k it’s driveshaft related as I’ve now narrowed it down a little.

The noise doesnt happen when I roll on and off the throttle but it’s mainly when I change gear, there’s a clonk from the engine bay when I clutch in, change gear then clutch out ....

I really need to get it up on a ramp!

I've got some humble pie to eat ......

I whipped the wheel centres out just to double check that the hub / driveshaft bolts were tight .....

Drivers side one wasn't even finger tight ...... passenger side one was ...... wait for it ....... MISSING!

I tightened up the one I had and found a bolt that fitted to put int he passenger side just to get me home ...... Straight down to Volvo in the morning for new genuine bolts and washers!
