That was lucky! -
Question is though where did the missing bolt go? I wouldn't thought it could fall away from the wheel if the wheel centre cap is in place.

It's obviously been missing for quite some time as the wheel centres were present when I bought the car. (quite recently)

Here's the kicker ... I consider myself to be a competent mechanic, I'm an engineer by trade so I relish the details. I've had both wheels off the front of the car to replace the discs and pads and I didn't notice that the bolt wasn't there. It was one of those 'Hiding in plain sight' situations where without intimate knowledge of the specific car it 'looked right'

I do feel a little embarrassed

New bolts ordered over the phone from my local Volvo dealer 3 miles away, they'll be in stock after 3.30pm today

£5.32 each.

Thats good to know!
Still a lot for a bolt, but, as main dealer bits go, a tenner is palatable!

Absolutely, and it's the right spec stretch bolt with a very substantial captivated collar / washer.

Fit it and forget it hopefully, £10 is a small price to pay really!

I was way ahead of you and had already checked. They're fitted now and good as gold!
