Yep, that's it.

It's been years since I last had it in my hands. Looking at it I cannot imagine how this would slip a few degrees. So I am less sure than ever this is what causes my wiper to go down and wipe my door first before going up toward the window. Easiest would probably to change the restingposition angled 15 degrees UP instead of horizontal. But then it just looks like all those other Volvo's with broken rear wipers with restingpositions all over... And getting rid of that is what made me make this thread in the first place, so then ****ty Volvo engineering would win.

I'm frustrated. This will be the third time in two months that I have disassembled the motor to clean and lubricate it with white lithium grease. Last time I even put a fresh gasket on clean so that there would be lesser chance of wet/debris inside. Why does this keep happening and is there any way to prevent it? My plastic cog looks okay. I remember reading someone drilling a hole in the gear housing in order to make less condensate inside the unit, but can't find the post now. Any insight would be great.

That really shouldn't be happening. The normal failure mode is washer fluid leaking into the spindle. Might that be leaking badly, somehow?

cheers

James

Perhaps, will investigate when I get home and take a picture. I assume it's the "tiny o-ring" everyone keeps talking about at end of the brass shaft that I'll be looking at?

EDIT: Here is the thread I was talking about with the drilling: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=213395 .. I'm wondering which part of the enclosure I should drill the hole to be honest.

They were on a free hosting site that promised to keep hosting them for free when they started charging money. And 2 months later they were gone... I still hope I will find them on some old harddisk and then ask the administrators if they will let me edit the first post. Until then, they're gone...

Default New here. Quick questions (I hope).

The rear wiper stopped working on my 2002 V70XC. I have two questions:
1) With the power disconnected from the wiper motor, should you be able to turn the motor by moving the wiper blade? I can't move it.
2) With the wire connector not clipped to the motor and the switch set to constant wiping, I am measuring 11.7v between black and yellow wires and 11.7v between black and white. If I reconnect the motor I measure less than 1v between black and white. Can I assume the motor is bad?

In answer to your questions

1. no you cant move the arm even with no power connected due to the way the gear box works.

2. I suspect your drive spindle has seized in the housing , if you are careful you might be able to remove the assembly from the car and then dismantle it allowing you to clean the shaft and housing then apply new lubricant, the shaft will probably need pressing out of the housing very carefully as the housing could be alloy or plastic.

I have done this successfully on 2 Volvo's and several other cars.
