Default RTI Unit Cleaning

Hi all,

Had a couple of errors reading the DVD over the last 4 years.

Took the DVD out and it did have a layer of dust/grime on it.

Replaced the DVD and all fine.

I think I would look at cleaning the lens next.

I see Volvo do a 'special' cleaning disc, I guess this puts the laser in the right position for cleaning.

So presuming a normal CD player cleaning disc will not do the job.

Also I see that disassembling the Drive Unit is quite involved and it doesnt look like the lens is easily accessible to give it a wipe with a cotton bud.

Any suggestions?

Yes the Volvo cleaning DVD has longer bristles than a normal one you buy in the shop , I would be surprised if that fixes it though , normally a new laser is required .

Thanks for the reply.

It has only failed to boot up about 3 times in four years and it runs fine all the other time.

The first time I cleaned the disc it was really cloudy with a dust/grime film.

I am just wondering if the lens has the same grime covering, hence the idea of cleaning it.

Looking at images online of the unit you cannot see the laser by just taking off the top panel.
