Default Volvo 240 GLT Auto Saloon

1989 51,000 miles Volvo 240 GLT Auto Saloon. Perfect dark metallic blue paintwork with bodywork in showroom condition. The wonderful soft biscuit coloured leather interior is also in fine condition complete with matching snow mats. This is a genuine low mileage car which has hardly been used since its MOT and full service, which included a precautionary cambelt change. This car has been maintained regardless of cost, especially by me over the last 6 years. It has absolutely no rust to the rear arches (a common weak spot), sill ends, or dents or scuffs to the bodywork. The dashboard is uncracked, so is the handbrake surround, and the door pockets remain intact. It has had a full exhaust system in the last 2 years and has good tyres all round, with the fronts almost unused. It still has the original radio fitted (I have the radio code). With the only addition of Volvo fog lights to the standard specification.
I travelled to the other end of the country to buy this car and it did not disappoint. This 30 year old car is close to concours condition and would suit a Volvo enthusiast seeking a solid low mileage example in excellent condition, in arguably the best colour combination. I will add pictures of the car shortly.
Price: £7995.00 ONO

I snatched some pictures today after a quick exterior clean (no back to black on it.....yet!). In no particular order.

Under a year ago I had the rear arch lips (inner and outer) forensically removed along the arch crease line to preserve the integrity and aesthetics of both flanks (I have pictures saved elsewhere of the exceptional work - the garage is known for custom fabrication work and high end nut and bolt restorations). So the rear wings are not rippled or full of filler.

This work cost me well northwards of £2,000. Some reading this looking for an exceptional car may sniff at the car having had this work. All I would say is good luck finding a 240 in your preferred colour which has no rust in the arches. Particularly when you remove the flap mouldings.

In my car's case, I noticed on buying it the inner and outer arches were just starting to expand. While I could have just had them painted up, I preferred to do it properly - buying inner arch lips and outer arches for both sides, and outer sills both sides (the rear quarter section of the sill only being used to replace the originals which were starting to go).

Not the most enlightening picture of the arches (more to follow when I have time).

This picture sums up the quality of the restoration work. I have a CD of all stages of the work which comes with the car, of course.

Hi Stuart hope you are well: ~
The car looks really good so I hope you get the best out of it- I can’t be tempted again as the Volvo family has grown since my 240 purchase off you.
I’m sure any potential purchasers won’t be disappointed with your standards!
Regards Bob

Hi Bob. I didn't realise you were on the forum. But hardly surprising given you now own two Volvo's!

Many thanks for your comments. As you know, I have an interest in another car marque, an example of which is currently coming to the end of a full body restoration. So, while I shall regret selling my Volvo, it will help pay the restoration bill!

Best wishes.

Stuart
