Smile Nearly there......ECU reset ?

Right guys, firstly, I am enormously grateful for all the help and advice people have given me with my T4 Probs. I have now (successfully) replaced the MAF, and fitted a new HRC Fuel Pump, aswell as replacing the coil on C1.

The pump immediately jumped to life as soon as the ignition was switched on and took about 0.5 seconds to fill and pressurize again, so far so good.

When I started the engine, however, the idle seems good, but then the engine hesitates and splutters between 3k and 4k.

I am really praying that this is just the ECU 'coming to terms' with the new parts, so my question is would it be a good idea to reset the ECU overnight and try again in the morning ? are these 'teething problems' normal ?

obliged as always

If you did the pump yourself (ie fitted one into the existing sender unit), double check the fuel feed line from the pump into the sender (inside the tank).... if the bends aren't quite right, or it isn't quite on properly you will have stutter problems. With no pressure / draw it'll work ok, with lots of pressure you will have problems as it seeps back out back in to the tank... This caught me out when i did mine, and i refitted the line incorrectly, ended up blowing 2 hoses lol

Anyways, good luck, Hopefully you just need to reset the ECU

Get your money back.

a genuine MAF will have sensor wire inside the unit, if you see a resistor welded in there it will be sending a default reading and is therefor unfit for purpose.

If you need to do it on the cheap (with the stupid prices the genuine ones are i dont blame you) have a look on ebay for a used genuine unit.

Default Eurocrap

Thanks Mikey, it does indeed have a resistor welded in the tubular section between the 2 gratings where the air passes through.

Europarts say they will not refund as it is an Electrical Component, therefore outside of their terms of refund !!

I've put the old unit back in and it def runs better, I'm not convinced that it's damaged at all, only that the problematic running which I was experiencing showed all the symptoms of a dodgy MAF.

I wonder if a diagnostic scan would indicate a fault in the MAF....it's going on the machine this weekend so will get them to check !

quote words similar to "not fit for the purpose intended" at them
as clearly a resistor soldered in is Not fit for the purpose of measuring air flow/temp by passing air over a thermally conductive metal (ie a real maf)

warranty of theres does not over ride uk consumer law. so they can whistle
did you pay by Ccard? if so , get onto CCard people, explain its not fit for purpose to them and that the seller refuses to refund for it and get them to sort the refund.

ECP cannot get out of their obligations under the Sale of Goods Act. If the item is faulty (not fit for purpose) they are legally obliged to offer you a replacement or a full refund. You may wish to speak to a senior manager within their organisation to remind them of their obligation. You may also wish to mention that your are an active member of the VOC Forum and that such behaviour may cause a 'few raised eyebrows' amongst the many thousands of potential customers who read your post. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
