The trouble with this sort of thread (and there are many, many like threads each year) is that no one seems to be willing to actually name and shame the offenders/high chargers, or to praise an insurance company/broker that gave them a reasonable fair deal including, most importantly, saying what they got and for what!!

Having said that, it is amusing how somebody will get a respectable deal from one firm, and the next moment another will get exactly the opposite!

If contributors to a respected Forum like this did actually 'give up' a little more detail people would get a far better deal from Underwriters and Brokers.

I've used ecar In the past, my sister has been with them for the last 4 years, also they do £60 cashback usually via topcashback (have paid out £60 every year too!

personally I like eCar, they always used to throw in free breakdown cover, and good cover, although I don't think they do that anymore.

For some reason now they are one of the most expensive for me, always the cheapest for my sister tho.

Endsleigh used to give good student discounts, but I left for them after my renewal doubled, then when I asked about it they told me it should of tripled! and I never claimed with them!!

*edit*

for what its worth I'm currently with admiral...good price good cover

I've had to make a claim on my insurance twice since driving, once 4 years ago had an astra (3 weeks and I crashed it...1.7 diesel, wasn't even remotely quick!), was with shiela's wheels at the time, very good claims service, currently with admiral now, both me and my partner made a claim last year, (nothing happens for 4 years for either of us and both of us have an incident within a month) and to be fair to admiral, they were very quick when it come to sorting it out, my incident was at Christmas too, although their breakdown cover doesn't cover flood damage.

My Girlfriend went with eCar, 1 word...disgusting, they wanted a photo copy of her driving license which she sent in, 7 times they sent the same letter, every time we called them on there premium line number costing £1.21p per minute!

They then cancelled her insurance but sending her a letter 4 DAYS after they had done so, we called them right away spending 40 mins on the phone @£1.21p per minute again with clueless sales people only to be told that they had cancelled it and charged us £75 to do so, in the same breath telling us that they would of course sell us more insurance with another hefty deposit...stay clear lol

I have a 98 V70r with Aviva for £498, 6 yrs no claims, unemployed cheap as chips imo, Carole Nashe will now insure it on classic but i have to own another car.

Im with Trade Wise classic and have been for several years,no problems with them what so ever, a UK landline number with staff who know what they are talking about and £300 cheaper.
Being a very capitive customer with only one other company would quote me they could have easily have charged me a lot more yet are very resonable.
