Cool best £3 spent ever (contact cleaning spray)

well as most of you know i have been having several different problems with my v50 over my 1 year of ownership and have now (touch wood) solved all of them with nothing more than contact cleaner spray.

high speed can bus fault = cleaned ecm connectors
strange goings on = clean cem connectors
RR door lock stops working when warm = clean driver and rear door connectors

so to this end i think we should have a sticky for this if your cars out of warranty and something stops working find its module and spray connectors with contact cleaner first.

i would hate to think how much money all these problems would have cost to get fix at a garage let alone at a stealer.

So if you unplug a multi-pin connector you just spray this on both halves and put back together?

Smile Clean Connectors

Just getting to looking at connectors. Xc70 playing up in the cold and wet. Cleaning electrical contacts seems a good idea, but we should probably also be then spraying them with a little protective contact grease.

A lot of the good contact cleaners also leave a protective coating after. So worth checking on the can.
I use the RS contact cleaner.

It's amazing what issues are fixed just by poor electrical contacts.

Went out to my V70 the other day, turned the key to start the engine and nothing happened. Dash lights were fine, but starter motor unresponsive.

The fix was to clean the contacts on the ignition feed wire going to the starter.

I used the WD40 one and it seems to have solved (touch wood) my wife's S40 throttle problems. (cleaned the CEM contacts)

I followed a video that also used small pipe cleaner brushes and a toothbrush to clean the contacts. Don't know if it helped but I would guess it is important to clean off any crud.
