So my Green 940 driver door has been destroyed by a lady driver not paying attention and all amicable so far, she is very sorry etc, no question of fault. She was driving a 17yo pug 2xx

The paint and body is in bad shape overall, but recoverable and I had been promising myself a passenger side wing (from spares car with a small rust repair by me), a bonnet respray (wing and bonnet are grey but mostly mint), rear qty repair and paint (previous owner 17yr ago damage + mates wife danage) and to fix a dent in the front right wing.

I have a perfect door thanks to Andy that needs painted.

With this in mind I got a quote of £600 for the door painting including blending, with a total quote of £1800 for about half the car painted well. Its a good shop and well renowned locally. Splitting the accident damage and my improvements painter reckons £500 to her is fair. Still seems alot to me, not blending is probably <£300, which still seems like alot.

I'm not looking to stick the arm in, but also worried about if she has to go through insurance. Do I ask her for £500 and see what happens, or do I look for green door on the mainland and pay shipping instead of painting and forget the whole painting thing with it costing more than the car is worth and all that.
I don’t see what the complication is? You have a quote for £600 for the panel. So you forward her the quote and ask for payment.

When she has paid you £600 you either pay £600 to the man and have not lost out, or you pay him £1800 which you top up with £1200?

Is there something I am missing? She is liable to pay £600 and you can do what ever you please? She can pay you £600 and you could decide to convert it to EV for £30,000. As long as you only charge her the £600 there is nothing wrong.

I would also say that I would be tempered to stick to original paint where you can as respects ofteb rust 5 years down the line.

The problem is the car isn't worth £600 at the time of the damage, and such a high quality job could be seen as not in keeping with the condition. Every panel is damaged, rust holes, dents, scratches etc. Also at £300 is a cash only deal with "other" benefits. Trying to get more would result in opening a can of worms.

Another option unless there's something i've missed here is take the money from the person who dinged your car, put it towards another repalcement car and use this one as a spares mule. Might not be an ideal solution as you seem attached to this one but it's an idea to conjure with.

It's all done and dusted now and looks alot better with all the built up work over the years for the wings and rear quarter now complete Still sorting the rear side window trims. Need to find a rubber solution the doesn't cost the earth (skandix).
