If you get me the paint code I might be able to get you a door. I know of a green 940 in a scrapyard that may still be there, it was due to be crushed weeks ago but was still there a couple of days ago.

Agree with pretty much everything said here hence the dilema, but it has been useful to help make a decision. So thanks for the inputs

The car is a well used daily driver and I've even damaged the paint putting my bike up against it, dog trips, its never been a show car.

I can't really justify asking for a show job for the car, so I think the most I would ask her for is £300.

As for getting another green door, well the car needed painted anyway and I didn't mind spending a bit of money on it, even when it is more than the cost of the car, I look at it that the car has saved me alot more and will continue on. If I want a poor job I can do that myself But obviously only up to a point and £1800 is beyond that for a tatty 940.

I don't think the quote is set in stone as yet, so maybe we can negotiate a little and drop some off.

Hi Tony,
This is such a personal choice. For what it is worth, I recently spent money on a paint job and certainly do not regret it. I just enjoy the car more after it. Even feel more inclined to mind it a bit better now too without putting it in a glass case and throwing sugar at it. Mine will never be a show car either, don't really want it to be, but want to enjoy it now for what it is. Most likely someone else will benefit in the future but for now, it makes me feel good. Might sound silly but that's why I think it is personal choice.........
Enjoy, whatever you decide........
Mike

Hi again,
Now it his my time to ponder so looking for your opinions.

A local detailer has recommended that I paint the bumpers. He has a good reputation.
I spent a few bob on a paint job but still like the bumpers as they are. However, now he has made me think……
Thought it best to include a couple of photos (hope they work) to show where we are at the moment……
Looking forward to your thoughts and experiences…
Thank you in anticipation.
Mike

I think the bumpers look way better when they're colour coded.

See my 940

But then if you're doing that you would want the scuffs repaired on the black section too.

You could also try this if you wanted to keep them all black.

Mixed views here Mike, the 760/960 had colour coded bumpers and mirrors from the factory and the 7/940s had grey plastic.

The pervious owner of mine repainted the door mirros black (with blackboard paint of all things and a thick brush! ) presumably as he thought it shouldn't have body coloured mirrors. Thankfully he left the bumpers alone though!

It depends whether you want to keep your 940 looking original or want to bling it up a bit.
Either way, as Luke says the scratches need dealing with.

Something that works well on the grey/black plastic is Meguairs Tyre Gel, brings them up nicely!

940's had colour coded mirrors and some had the colour coded strips on the bumper as well

The higher spec 940s like mine have colour coded bumpers and mirrors Dave.

I think the OP wants a more permanent solution to the faded bumpers, however for a quick fix simoniz bumper spray in tesco is the best product I've found for the faded bumpers.

Thanks guys,
Mine is the 740 SE, 1990.
So I thought original was black plastic. Perhaps it was originally grey??? If it was I would leave it grey....
Dave, What your previous owner did is exactly what I want to avoid. I don't want to bling it up I would prefer to leave as is than that.
All, I agree the 960's look great with the colour coded mirrors and bumpers but I think mine never had them.
Mark, the profile of your car looks fab, (I know it is 940 and I know it is Regent Red) but that is why I though to bring it back to original black, but now if indeed it ever was black....
Sorry, I intended to include this picture the first time....
