Do you know where the wire was broken and why?

I'm assuming on the door bend and due to fatigue, but worth clarifying.

I've heard Volvo recall cars for crazy little items, but then again I suppose this shows their commitment to customer safety and people before profit?
I suspect (without knowing any details whatsoever but based on a general rule) that there's a problem garage in the mix.

Then again, it's not just the effort, it's the cost! Might be worth trying I suppose rather than run the risk of the 75W bulbs, especially as the main focus really is to upgrade the Xenons.

How long did your H4's last in comparison to Nightbreakers and stock OEM bulbs?
Had the PIAA H4's for 2.5 years, done around 20k miles, I often leave the lights on during the day as well.

I used to use Nightbreakers on my XC90 (albeit in H7 format) they tended to last about a year -18 months which was around 10k for that car. On all day obviously.

If you buy from power bulbs you get a minimum 6 month warranty I think regardless of mileage.

Yes, to be fair, Volvo contributed 90% despite the car being 5 years old - still cost me £1200 though. New engine, clutch, EGRs, headlights.

Recalls were drivers door safety wiring loom, EGR cooler (several times), inlet manifold fire risk and I'm waiting for the seatbelt and the bleed hose ones to be done.

Now the rear passenger door only locks and unlocks in specific sets of circumstances.

Apologies for sending the thread a bit off topic.

No worries, this is all good information.

This is my first ever Volvo and thought they didn't really suffer with any issues like this given how well the Swedes supposedly engineer them, then again mine is in next week for BLIS malfunction and leaking rocker cover!

My engine is the newer one as well which is a bit disconcerting, especially as it passed the 'thorough' inspection and road test yet the BLIS didn't work from the day I drove off the forecourt and another dealer has said the oil leak would definitely have been there when I picked the car up.

Did a search for H9 on ABD and found these LED units:

Not sure on the actual dimensions but I guess these would suffer with the beam not being in the correct position?

Looking at that cone reflector in the middle i would think the beam would be very good , worth trying, as on main beam blinding people is not an issue :-)

Also noticed these, however they state H8/9/11/16, however I thought the electrical tab internally was different depending on the number:

https://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/h8...ulbs-pair.html

Can't tell if the original one I linked to has the internal keyway tab, but it doesn't appear to have the lacking tab on the top of the housing? Going to ask ABD for tech drawing and information as it's not specified.

Just looked on the Halogen bulbs. The locking tap/stub is indeed on the other side so those H8/9/11/16 surely can't be compatible?

Also unsure if it would fit in the housing given the depth as I've no idea of the clearance between the connector and the light housing cover.
