Default C30 Question

Hi all,
I recently bought my first Volvo (and car for that matter) it's a Volvo c30 registered Feb 2008 (just turned 5) from a local used car dealer. Basically as I have no sort of motor background at all I figured this would be the best place to ask my question.

In short, the lower grille (air intake I think) below where the crest is doesnt have a grille on it, it's just a hole. Originally the dealer had said it had been stolen and he was going to replace that grille for me. He phoned me today to say that my model of the car didn't actually come with a lower intake grille when it was manufactured. I was wondering if anyone could confirm or deny this as it seems a bit strange to me. I apologise in advance as I don't really know what I'm talking about when it comes to this sort of thing and figure some of you guys would be fairly expert.

Thanks in advance, a very excited new Volvo driver.

Confirmed, the C30 does not have a lower grille. On this occasion the car dealer is correct.

I do like how he has changed his storey though! Stolen??

Some people do get some wire mesh to cover that area and it is not a bad idea, the radiator thing you can see through that gapping hole is the intercooler (assuming you have a turbo model), some sort of wire mesh will help a little in protecting the intercooler from damage.

The S40 and V50 both came with lower grilles but if you look at one of these the size of the holes means there may as well be no grille.

Fiat Grande Punto grill with ends cut off fits the gap.

And yes it did not come with one.

I noticed today on my girlfriends car that there a couple of dents in the radiator behind this gap, I can't see any leaks is this something to worry about? going to look into getting a grill as it seems stupid that theres no protection there.
