I'll definitely try the latest advice here, next time I get a few hours!

I'll get my multimeter out👍

Speedo has intermittently worked but mostly doesn't. Fuel guage is busy chatting nonsense all the time, perhaps some of its random readings might be correct. Odometer and trip counter just don't do anything.
What does the speedo do/not do?

So the speed sender and the fuel sender might be the cause?

That's for another day if so!
Apologies, I was definitely getting confused at that point!!
The guage could be the cause, I see that now.

But yes I'll get my multimeter out and check.

I gather that if the Odometer doesn't work and the speedometer does work then it could be a gear in the odometer (I've read that elsewhere here) but if both don't work it could be something else?

I've had a quick read on previous threads but I've had an hour and had to keep half a brain on the kids so I am a bit overloaded at the moment! But I'll carry on reading and checking things as and when I get chance.

The speedo mostly does nothing, as in it sits at zero. Once or maybe twice for a short period I've seen it display the correct speed, I used a GPS speedo ap to verify what each 10mph interval is in each gear according to the tachometer so I always know how fast I'm going, roughly. And for this short moment the speedo was correct.

But that was a while ago now and it's been not reading anything since, nor did it read anything when I picked it up.

The other gauges (just temp and tachometer i'm guessing) work ok though?

Yes the temperature guage and tachometer give entirely normal working readings. I use the tachometer to know what speed I'm doing, and the temperature does things I'd expect.

In that case the speedo at least is getting power as the power for the whole cluster comes in via the speedo connections.

There may be a problem between the connector and the speedo but that will be either in the instrument or the screws that connect it to the PCB - you could try loosening then tightening the screws, that will often clean the connections and restore operation but i suspect the actual instruments rather than the power.

Thanks will definitely try that. I'll put a wanted post for the instruments, i dare say everyone wants working instruments though!

Edit: I'll try that with the fuel guage too just in case!

any idea what these bayonet plugs are for, the double one has a lead that I unplugged with a red wire but only fits on one of the two. The other is a complete mystery on the back of the speedo, and there is another double clip I have just removed on another of the speedo screws...?

A better pic with things out back together

The pins tend to hold the speedo on to the female connector attached to the blue plastic.

When you put it back make sure you don't bend the pins and ensure they insert correctly into their female counterpart rather than slipping to one side.

The speedo is a tight fit anyway but just pull it out and it will separate as there is nothing more holding it in position..

Yes that's quite correct, I have the little pins!
Thanks for that.
