Default Problems getting a part from Volvo

Hello
Since October, I have had an exhaust muffler (part number 31261683) on order from Volvo via my local dealer having been told that there is no after market alternative. I own a 2008 S40 SE Sport RDesign T5 but believe that the part is not unique to my model.
On four occasions I have been given a delivery date each of which has been missed. I contacted Volvo customer services who have not been able to provide me with any help in securing delivery of this part in fact they are now saying that there is no expected delivery date. They also tell me that there is no possibility of escalating this within Volvo. My dealer has also been unable to successfully expedite this with Volvo.
A trawl of the internet shows that the only place this part is "available" is USA, I am reluctant to order this part from unknown to me sources, especially when Volvo were giving me delivery dates.
I have two questions which hopefully can be answered:
a) Are other members having issues in obtaining parts?
b) Are there any UK sources for this part that I am unaware of?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as I am reaching the end of my tether with this situation.
Thanks, Ian

Sorry I can't answer either of your questions but would point out that PFV in the UK appear to have an aftermarket alternative for either FWD or AWD: https://www.partsforvolvosonline.com...00be4297013a70

Thanks Andrew, I only need one part of the section, the price of which is considerably less than quoted on the website you note.

Skandix in germany can apparently get one following a week's preorder: https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-part...encer/1038545/
But with shipping you are easily looking at over £500 just for the rear muffler.

I suppose your other option would be to go to a custom exhaust shop to have a rear section made.

If you are set on it being the proper volvo part then you could try another dealer. FRF swansea or Caffyn's are usually very helpful.
If you order one from the USA you are going to get hammered with customs/VAT/shipping charges.

Your dealer's cheap price for the volvo part is a bit academic if they can't supply it...

Thank you Andrew, you make a good point about the cost. I am not precious about it being a genuine Volvo part but don't know of any custom exhaust shops. I don't believe that the problem is with the dealer (more with Volvo) but will try the others you suggest. Ian

"Walker" are the only ones list anything that resembles OEM , but it is Perm Out of stock, Walker do not respond to emails

ended up getting a Custom made Stainless steel cat back system made on the car for less than the price of Just the back box (as quoted by local volvo main stealer)

Thank you Andy. I came across Mountune who seem to specialise in Ford. I know that much of the S40 was based on Ford, maybe I will give them a try. Do you know if they are any good? Ian
