I have it as one of those little things associated with the XC90, like the steering wheel not returning to center from full lock, but does from all other positions. Great car overall.

To be honest, I'm not sure. It's not something I'm aware off but I'll try and remember to check next time I go out. Mines become like a comfortable old jacket now and I just get in and drive.

After an anxious few weeks of increasing wobble/vibration at speed, I examined my top mount to find it is also an original and totally split.

I bought a new one today and will fit this weekend as per previous helpfull thread.

On the way home, I went in past my local garage who fitted my Wintrac 4 Extremes three weeks ago, just to make sure the front wheels were balanced properly. They immediately found that the passenger side track rod end was knackered and after 2 hours (they had to get part), I was sorted and 4 wheel aligned - vibration/wobble totally gone and much firmer feel on the road over bumps.
Discount as well as they apologised for not noticing when the tyres were changed.
(Checked with Volvo about the recall in 2006 - but mine had new rod ends fitted then as well)

Can now enjoy the Wintracs even more - great recommendation Roy - roll on the snow.

Interesting to see if the new mount makes any further difference.

One of the conditions of me buying mine was a replacement top engine mount (brakes, windscreen, valet, etc... etc...), and it had just had a main dealer service with Volvo. It had the original cracked mount. All fixed now though.

Job done this morning - 20 minutes.

Must admit, unlike others, I do notice a big difference and improvement in the vibration of the car, although my old mount was completely split top and bottom of the rubber.

One ****-up however - I followed the instructions in the thread, but when tightening the studs to 50nm I broke the small one (oops) - dont know if it was supposed to be tightened like this - so now only the 3 big studs and a bit of the 10mm somewhere inside!!!

I noticed on Ebay that there were a few sellers just selling the inside bush and not the whole casting.... might be worth double checking if anyone is going to get one off the bay.

Just had mine go on 2007MY XC90 and XC70. I don't know when the upgraded part started to be fitted at the factory, but my guess is this is still a vulnerable part.

Hi folks, new member here. I've just had my 90 for 4 weeks or so and when I got it in Redditch from Johnsons, a new top mount was fitted as part of the prep for sale, so I suppose another old original one. Enjoying the motor too.

Hi i am also a new member, with an xc90 exec of just 6 weeks. I am not too impressed had it back to the dealer twice already, once for the hand brake not working and the second for vibration through the steering wheel at start up and whilst driving locally. Its ok when no pressure is exerted on the accelerator and also the air con fan runs on for over an hour. Harratts of Leeds say it is normal for it to run for up to an hour after engine has stopped. Is it!!!! Hope somebody can shed some light.
Thanks
