S80 lower wisbone
Hi guys,
VOLVO S80 2.4 D5 2004 Diesel Got an idvisory on my MOT front offside lower wishbone slight play, its now clunking so I need to replace it. Q1 There are so many, what type should I go for and how much should I expect to pay. Q2 The actual wishbone is in good condition is it worth just changing the bushes, how easy is it? Q3 Anything I should look out for when fitting? Thanks in advance Phil |

I have always replaced bushes with poly. It does take a bit of time cleaning them out ready to fit the poly.
Main thing to watch out for is not to pull on the drive shaft causing the joint to pop as they creats work you dont want. Couple of links for you http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthre...light=wishbone http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthre...light=wishbone http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthre...light=wishbone |

These don't seem to fit on S80, but either way these will last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years, depending on roads surface. Someone bought these but reported the front one was busted in not long, so perhaps not true Volvo parts. Leforder is the way to go to keep them longtime. You can press the bushes in with the correct adapters and a 10 ton press. The bushes go in an certain position.

Hi guys,
I need help!! I have put a new control arm on the drivers side front, located the 3 bolts on the bushes that bolt to the frame and tightened them, I cannot get the arm pulled down enough to get it over the lower ball joint. Am I doing anything wrong? I watched this video and he used a ratchet strap to pull the arm over the ball joint is there a easier way? Should I not have tightened the bush bolts up and should I remove the driveshaft bolt? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnwksNuAPaQ Thanks |

Without a strap, it's very difficult to overcome the spring force of the bushes if you're working on your own. Even Haynes' alternative of a block of wood and bar requires a chain.

Thanks,
Is that easy? Just remove the two bolts on the strut and then push down? I noticed that you have stripped the hub and removed the drive shaft is that necessary? Thanks |

When the two strut bolts are removed, the spindle will have a tendency to tip over which will pull on the drive shaft - it can cause the CV joint to dissasemble which is a big hassle (you may scroll on the video description). The shaft doesn't need removed, but the shaft bolt is wise to remove so as the shaft end can slide freely if the hub was to tip over. But with a helper to keep the spindle well in place it might not be needed. I also had both wheels off ground so as to be able to push on the torsion bar end links without disconnecting them from the strut (the upper nut is hard to remove)
