Default Computer journey log

Are there any systems on a 2011 XC90 that logs when the car may have been driven? If there are - does anybody know how to access this data and how long the info is stored for - i.e. all journeys for the past 12 months etc? Thank you.

Trend of use loggers are quite common place but they will only store trends, ie how long a vehicle as been driven at certain speeds/engine speeds/throttle openings. Only the manufacturer will have access to this and it is used for future development and warranty studies.

There will also be a data recorder associated with the airbag system. This will monitor the conditions in approximately the 30 seconds prior to an airbag deployment. Again this will only accessible by the manufacturer and only in very serious circumstances.

I'm only speculating but I would not be surprised if certain 'maxima' were retained indefinitely within certain modules, as well as trends.

An '03 Peugot 406 Estate that I once ran as a company car certainly did just that. When I took it in for a service on one occasion the dealer did pass comment as to the speed I had been doing..

(as it happens, I hadn't done anything like that speed. The French electronics, in their customary style, when wet sometimes caused the dial instruments in the cluster to swing wildy between zero and high-scale. Nonetheless the car still logged this as excessive speed.)

Using VIDA you can read the data of each control unit.

Basically, the units only log the pertinent data useful for diagnosing a fault when a fault has occured. This may include time offset from current time, engine speed, engine load, throttle position, vehicle speed, etc. But no GPS position.

So if no faults are logged, no other data is logged.

The GPS nav is a separate unit which does not really talk to the car much and doesn't log your previous journeys, it only logs the current journey while active. And it keeps a memory of your last selected 20 destinations, but that is no proof that the vehicle was actually at that destination.

I don't have the OnCall so cannot comment on what the OnCall system logs. But it DOES have its own GPS receiver and it CAN transmit the current vehicle position to the OnCall operators. So I image it would stores some info.
