Limp Home
hi all...
i am posting this for my sister who picked up a 2005 V50 with 19,000K's on the clock on saturday. ( i prefer to stick to 12 year old mercs ) Really pleased with her car. Drove it about 300 ks and on the way home from work on monday (1.5hr commute) it went (i am guessing) into limp mode (she described it as like pulling a trailer which i assume is the revs decreasing). She pulled the car over on the motorway and the car would not start again. (BTW she is pregnant aswell so hubbie is fuming) As you can guess they are not so happy at the moment. So am doing some research for them. They have the 2Litre diesel model. Is it this EGR value problem that i have been reading about on this site. Any info that they could pass onto garage so that its rectified right first time would be great. If i am guessing the car went into limp mode would it normally fail to start again. Thanks for any info.... |

...figure it must be the EGR valve, a known issue with the 2.0D
It is mentioned that it can be disabled, software update or replaced. Ideally a software update is the way forward. Any ideas ? What is the exact function of this sensor. ? |

If it is stuck in a duff mode you could always try disconnecting the battery (check you have radio code etc. first though!) leave it off for about 1/2 hour and re-connect (make sure you don't lock the keys in the car!) and it might clear the dodgy mode and put it back to "normal" mode.
Or just get a volvo dealer to read the codes, reset them, and maybe upgrade ECU SW if necessary. Dunno much else to suggest to help sorry... Pete |
