Default Noise after switching off

Hello

I notice this most at night, but I don't think it's exclusively then - just quieter environment. When I have turned my car off there's a clearly audible continuous tone coming from under the bonnet. Several times I've thought a nearby shop has had a break in - that constant "beep" tone (solid tone, not beeping, but sounds electrical to me).

I've searched through forums and haven't seen anything that describes it exactly. Any ideas?

Cheers

When I put the V40 in the garage at night and turn off the engine I have noticed a slight electrical type humming noise which lasts for a minute or so coming from under the bonnet. I think its probably just the electrical systems powering down.

My Mazda 2 makes a high pitched buzz and a click a little after shut down, I think it is the throttle staying open to let the fumes out of the inlet manifold. something to do with pollution, iirc.

My old S40 used to emit noises from under the bonnet after switch off, sounded like a quiet cow mooing, we decided that it was flaps and vents etc powering down.
My V40 D2 makes similar quieter noises sometimes when switched off in the garage after driving home from work.

Both cars use the same 1.6 diesel engine.
