Default 2L D2 coolant low warning

Good evening

I have purchased a 15 plate V40 with the VEA 2L diesel. I have done approx 700 miles since purchase and I have this warning popped up. Car has full Volvo service history and 14000 miles the day I picked it up just over a week ago!

My previous 1.6 D2 required a new water pump however this car seems to be loosing it quicker as I noticed the level was exactly between min and max through the week now it is just below min.

Thanks for your help.

I bought my VEA D4 V60 back in the summer. Within a few days the low coolant warning popped up and the level was indeed low. Added 250ml of water in to get the level back between min & max and, despite expecting the worst, it hasn't fallen again even after covering around 4k miles.

My theory is that my EGR cooler was replaced during the last service and the system had been left with an airlock which shifted just after I bought it. I have no history for the car, so can't prove this theory, but I can tell from the lack of a T-piece on the top radiator hose that my EGR cooler has been upgraded (a common recall action on these engines).

I've since bought 1L of the correct antifreeze from a Volvo dealer (which is surprisingly cheap).

Update:

I filled the tank to max and it has dropped slightly when cold but sits on max when hot. Garage has pressure tested system and all seems ok so I will monitor over the next days and weeks.

Thanks
