Do you mean the car itself use a wifi signal (eg home router) or the car to rebroadcast your phone internet connection (via Bluetooth)?

You have to use your phones Wi-Fi signal whilst out and about but at home you can connect via your home Wi-Fi. You have to set it up in the car via My Car and go through the menu until you come to internet. Full instruction are in the manual

Jaycar Hi
I have checked this out and it appears that it is not possible to use your own router to connect to the internet,
You can use your bluetooth device e.g telephone and connect, and also use it as a hotspot or if you have a sim card connection in the front glove compartment you can purchase a data card or dongle and connect via one of them.

If I have this wrong please let me know as I was hoping to stop at a wi fi hot spot carpark and jump on to their system

Just been in my car and connected to the internet within the infotainment centre via my home router and wi-fi. I have also connected via a bluetooth connection with my phone.
Instructions
Select MY Car - OK
Select Settings - OK
Select Internet Settings - OK
Connect through - Select wi-fi or bluetooth - OK
Select ssid of your home router and enter password
SSID has a tick against it when connected
Exit out
Press internet button and you are then finished enter web address and connect

Question

Bantambuddy I have tried that but when I get to connect through all I am offered is Bluetooth or none.
This means I cannot connect via the router as no wi fi shown.Have you any other settings that enabled you to see the wi fi option.?
I take it you are not using a data card in glove comp?
Do you have on call option?

Not so simples for me.

Many thanks

Have you registered for a Volvo ID as this may be preventing you from accessing the internet from within your car. Just in case here is the link

Thanks for ongoing advice but not there yet.
Looking at the registering the car i see the following on the registration site.

Ensure that your car is connected to the Internet. For more information, see Connect to the Internet via mobile phone (Bluetooth), Connect to the Internet via a personal SIM card (Volvo On Call) or Connect to the Internet via mobile phone (Wi-Fi).

So according to the Volvo website there is not the ability to connect via external router only tethering through mobile phone which uses wifi.

My car is 2014 so may need an upgrade.

Phoned local dealer who said I cannot use my home wi fi router
So any assistance is very much appreciated

They are right because it is not enabled ,yes there is a software to enable it and add some apps and service booking from car , but you have to pay for it or they may be generous . It depends on your cars chassis number and week of manufacture but if 2014 highly likely to be able to be updated .
