V40 electrical noise from centre console / CD player
Afternoon all,
I have a 2015 D3 V40. Have recently noticed there is an 'electrical' sounding noise coming from the centre console buttons / CD player area. Its a high pitched whine that gets higher in pitch then stops, then starts again. (Almost like a CD player struggling to read a disc) It does this frequently and makes no different wether there is or isn't a CD in player, whether the infotainment system is on or off or even if ignition is on or off. This is slowly begining to drive me insane. Anyone had anything similar on a volvo this new? Or able to shed any light? Any help for the sake of my sanity while driving would be massively appreciated! (Other than turning radio up ) Cheers, Lewis |

Mine makes this sound too ,similar sound to a faint star wars laser battle.
Mine stops when the air con button is switched off. |

Its the Hard Drive for the Sensus system. It spins up occasionally. Unlike most cars nowadays that use SD cards or similar electronic storage, the Volvo seems to use an Old Fashioned hard drive like a computer. The noise you hear is the spin up and down of the drive.
