Unhappy Dead TDi

Oh well,
Two weeks after we decided to keep the TDi rather than trade in for a newer one it stopped dead on the M6, cue the usual family strife waiting for the man to take us home. No loose wires, both belts still in place so off to DieselBobs to get the timing checked. Timing good, so the mystery continued till we decided to take the head off. See the attached pics to see what happens when a valve drops!

The only clue to something being not right was about a year ago we had a clonk that sounded like a hydraulic lifter was failing. So replaced all the lifters, and the belts, and timed it all in and things seemed well.

My only guess is some oilway was blocked somewhere, pumped the lifter up and so held the valve open enough to get it smacked off the stem.

So, a bust V70 is available, and anyone any other ideas to it's sudden death!

Cheers!

Sam

Hi Mate,
It's the classic shape, so like a rounded off 850 with a bonnet catch that doesn't break, and a fuel filler that opens!
