Default Audio compatibility?

Will an HU605 audio unit from the S/V40 work OK in place of an SC805?

SWMBO's S70 has a dying SC805 player, and I'm looking for ways to resurrect it, and ideally to give it iPod playability. We'd previously used one of those tape adaptors, and it worked fine, but now the tape deck has given up the ghost, and the CD only works intermittently.

SC805 units are hens teeth-like in their scarcity, and the few good ones that do turn up on Ebay are eye-wateringly expensive. But HU605 units from the S/V40 range seems to be plentiful and cheap as chips.

The HU605 looks to be a double-DIN, and from the photos I've seen on Fleabay, the connectors into the back look the same, except for the aerial. The front is of course different, but it is at least from the same family, and does look "Volvo"!

Does an aerial adaptor exist? Is it a plug and play swap, or is there a secret pitfall?

Ta

Cheers

Jack

Can't answer on the HU-650 front but Minty normally has a few SC-805s going and he prices them very reasonably.

Give him a call on 07841056796.

One point to watch if you go down the SC805 route. They come in two colours, black as fitted to the S/V70 and dark grey in the S/V40.

From a photo it would be difficult to determine which is which, but against the dash very noticeable.

When you say eye-wateringly expensive, what do you mean, because you can pick up the grey version for anywhere around £35. The black ones are more expensive, as they are much harder to obtain in working condition.

There are plenty of multichangers on fleabay, but the problem seems to be obtaining the connection cables, they are usually left in the donor vehicles.

When the cd in my sc805 gave up I managed to find a unit on ebay without a code so just changed the cd part, I remember reading on here (somewhere) that the hu605 will be a direct replacement...didn't buy one so can't be 100% certain if that's correct.
