Default 1999 V70 2.0T engine specs

Hello all,

I just bought a 1999 V70, and the engine power is 120kW, I tried to find info about this engine, but I'm not finding any info about it. I see info about the 134kW engine, but nothing about the 120kW version.

The anyone have any info on this engine, like turbo model, max boost pressure, and so one?

Regards,

Daniel from Portugal

Hi Daniel,

welcome to volvo land, i think the engine you have is the light pressure turbo i had an S40 with the same engine its 160bhp and uses a mitsubishi turbo, (assuming if the same as your car), see if you can find the engine number its on a label somewhere like the plastic cam cover, starts with a B (like B4204),

i found this site that gives some more specs,

My guess would be B4204T
1998–1999
160 PS (118 kW; 158 hp) @5100
230 N⋅m (170 lb⋅ft) @1800–4800
1,948 cc (118.9 in3)

Hi,

Guys this a V70, it's a 5 cylinder.
It's not the same engine has in the 40's series, and that's why I'm not finding anything. I have a 2000 S40 T4, so i'm somewhat family with Volvos, just don't now anything about this engine.

Thanks

Very rare engine, only really existed in Italy/Spain due to stringent taxes on engines over 2.0L. I can't find anything on it at all, aside from the supposed fact that the 2.0T5s were only just under 2.3T5 power levels (so somewhere around 200bhp).

In Portugal to, apparently.

I assume it's the exact same engine has in the 134kW cars, but what is the difference? Did they just change boost pressure, different turbo, injectors?
I'm lost. I should have the car on the 14th. Since I have to take the head apart, then I will check turbo model and injector size. Maybe through the VIN I can find out engine it really has, as far as specs.

Thanks is again.

The 2.0 T5 engine was also available in Ireland. I test drove a P1 2000 V70 manual with that engine a number of years ago and it was a spirited drive to put it mildly! At that time I recall researching the engine and read an unconfirmed report that it used a 18T turbo. I was left wondering if it had proper forged T5 pistons and rods, however.

News from my Volvo,

B5204T4 is the engine on my V70. Has far has I can tell the differences between this one and the B5204T3 is only turbo pressure.

The compression rate is 9.5:1 in the B5204T4 and 8.4:1 in the B5204T3.
The turbo in both is a td04-12t.

How to get more out of the engine without a remap?
I know this engine has a map sensor, and because of it it should go into limp home mode if boost gets to high.

Does anyone know the low boost pressure of the B5204T4 engine? And does anyone know the high boost pressure on the B5204T3?

Maybe i can find a middle ground that works.

Regards,

Daniel Mota

Sold in Italy, I think it’s the same used under the 940 for the same market, tuned up to 180hp.
