Manufacturers only notify owners these days for safety recalls rather than service problems , if they had to notify for every problem they came across they would be bankrupt by now , that goes for any manufacturer .

It's not covered under the warranty we have (select I think)
Bit peeved, may give Volvo uk a call, we are however covered for windscreen on our insurance £75 excess.
It sounds like it should have been a recall.
I saw an expert remove our cracked XC90 screen this year and there is absolutely no reason for it to get broken in the process.

They push a big needle and thread though the polyurethane bonding and pull through round the screen cutting the screen out of the car.

They use a lifter suction machine thing to remove and replace the screen so no actual heavy lifting is required.

This needs more than a local seal , there is a bonded on trim strip which stops you getting anything near where the actual leak is you may find the whole top strip of the screen will be unbonded , it needs to come out and be bonded in properly or you will be having it done again in the near future .

All sorted. Strip replaced, apparently about a foot of it was giving way to water !! They did mention tho that if the screen breaks on removal that i stand the cost of it, but all was ok just £50..

Thanks for the replies

Its worth remembering that the windscreen is a structural part on modern cars, if its leaking then the structural integrity is compromised....

Its a a well known xc60 issue, something to do with failed glue primer at the factory if I recall.
Windscreen repairers use a very nifty cheesewire-like screen removal system these days, it may be worth getting a quote for reinstall from them if you are out of warranty.

Yes a vital safety part but if you are not getting it done by the dealer , ensure it is done to volvos method and using their parts , it is not always ( if at all ) the same as the mobile people use and therefore not volvo approved ..
for example the Volvo way uses a bonding agent which has to be heated in an oven to 80 C before use , and the glass and surround have to be primed . have you ever seen an independent doing this ?

Volvo cannot consider this problem a safety issue as they would have issued a recall, their reputation has been built on the safety of their cars and they obviously wouldnt fail to act on such an issue.

I've resurrected this thread as I have today reached a resolve with my xc60 windscreen leak and Volvo.
The dealership had offered to do the reseal for free as a gesture of good will as they had given us inappropriate advice re claiming from our insurance.
They would not however stand the cost of the windscreen should it get broken during the re seal and our insurance said they would only cover the screen in the event of accidental breakage and they deemed this not to be the case should the dealership break it suggesting that the dealerships insurance should cover it.
We emailed Volvo uk last night and explained the situation and today received a phone call from them saying they would cover all and any costs incurred in the re sealing of our screen they even arranged for our car to be collected from us and a courtesy car left for us to use. I'd say that was a pretty good result and I feel pleased that my assumptions of Volvos ciustomer care have been confirmed.
so I'm still enjoying my Volvo experience and its looking like it's going to be for some time yet.
Thanks Volvo custom care here's one very happy chappie.

Default Windscreen leak and screen broke during removal

Hi there, same problem as previously described by many but in our case vovlo broke the screen and we suppose to pay for it. They will cover the bonding repair only. How am I liable to pay for an issue which is caused by v9lvo during the manufacturing process?
