I've watched the Antiques Road Trip now and again and noticed that many of the 'celebrities' don't treat the old classics they're driving particularly well. I'd therefore be extremely reluctant to offer my car up for this type of programme especially after reading of Russ's experience. It really is scandalous that they can deliver a car back in the condition described and then making excuses for not paying for the privilege of using it. Of more concern is that this seems to have happened to a number of owners lending out their cars for this programme.....
PS as an aside, the programme also does the antiques industry no favours whatsoever with antique shop dealers being put under pressure to accept ridiculous offers from the so called 'experts'. Whilst I accept that something is worth only what someone is prepared to pay and there are discounting margins, I'm pretty sure Joe Public would be shown the door is they offered £70 for something priced up at £220...... |

I read that that members of the production team go in to the shop first and select the pieces and then arrange the pricing. That's why it looks so easy. Sensible shop owners just tell them to s*d off.
Sorry to read about your troubles Russ but this sort of thing isn't new I'm afraid. Unfortunately the beeb and others now sub this sort of thing out to these twerps rather than do it in-house. |

Thanks guys
I posted to ensure people went in with eyes wide open. Its my own fault; i assumed (there we go assuming again) that as classic car owners they would offer that considerate/knowledgable service. That is respect the car as if its their own. Sad fact is the two n...ties, Beevis and Butthead that they sent to look after the car had no idea. Im surpised they were allowed laces in their shoes. The car was contracted for 5 3 day periods with 2-3 weeks between each period. That period went fine without mishap and the car was due to be returned the following day. Had an email asking if they could use it for another 3 day slot as a car had broken down. I agreed and the last day of that prriod we had torrential rain and we all know the early 1800s if you dont secure the fuel cap properly water gets into the tank. Now i have a glass inline filter and it would be simple to see emulsified fuel/debris. However appears Bevis or Butthead were taking longer than usual to tie their shoes that day and the other d.p kept churning the engine over. Once the car came home that was when the communication became sparse and it was Mr Tidbury rather than Russ. I presume at that stage he had been paid by STV Productions. Ive learnt my lesson, use this experience to ensure it doesnt happen to any of you. Car is back on song, never misses a beat and start first time. Unlike the Jensen Interceptor they wanted to sell me- what a joke that car was! Much like the rest of the cars in the fleet Russ |

Hi Russ,
I just watched the program and thought it was your P1800 - came on here to see if there were any posts. Absolutely horrific sad news for you and your wonderful P1800 but it's not entirely unexpected as per our phone conversation... |

Thanks for your call and many thanks for the information of yet ANOTHER classic car owner affected by this company. As discussed Im collating this group with the aim to contact the relevant parties who would be interested in the practises of this classic car company. Ive also had an interesting discussion with a company who do have a Corporate Social Responsibility and it does extend to the supply chain and the standards they aspire to they expect their supply chain to follow as well. Good idea regarding PistonHeads, as you said these social groups are an excellent way to obtain information as well as getting a message of concern out. Perhaps in the future these companies will become aware that a small concern could have a major impact. Perhaps he will have the time to read this whilst on holiday? Thanks again Russ |

Hi Russ,
sorry for the delay in response to the TR3 owner, well it was some time ago and I don't have his name to hand to be fair. I've just watched the episode with your car in today, a nice example and in a colour that sets off the chrome work too. I'm with "skysurfer" on this (side issue) subject, like a lot of TV it's a set up business and rather takes the reality out of anything you watch. I've been a cynic for years and now prefer the radio to watching these pillocks in their self promoting programmes full of whaffle. Also how much more are we to hear about the way forward with BREXIT where large gatherings of people (all on expenses consuming endless amounts of wine and top class cuisine) with out an inkling of how to proceed with a decision the nation made over 12 months ago, whether your'e an IN or an OUT for goodness sake Government make a decision and just get on with it................!!!!!!!!!!! |

You're car was really nice ,like new. It must have brought the programme luck as that miniture camera on Friday made £20,000 and he only paid £60 for it.

Yeah that was an amazing find. All credit to the shop owner who was pretty magnanimous that he wasnt aware of the value.
Ray contacted me to say he had heard from someone who had been affected by the hire company. I managed to find him Ray and had a long chat on the phone. Found two ofhers on the web and talking with them as well. Another contacted me to say he was affected and im waiting on him recontacting. Finally someone esle on another forum mentioned he knows of someone and will get him to contact me. Im hoping we can come together as a band of brothers and make further representations to all the usual (Practical Classics, Watch Dog et etc) and then im sure like Jimmy more will come out of the woodwork Pretty unsavoury character and could impact on the programme if noone is willing to loan their car. Which would be a shame Russ |
