Default Aux belt idler pulley washer....or not?

I've just had my replacement auxiliary belt idler pulley arrive (after a 10 day wait with next day delivery! Thanks FedEx)....

When I took the old pulley off there was something akin to a metal washer on the back (I'll grab a photo). It almost looks like the sealing covers from an old pulleys bearings, not an actual washer.

As I don't trust who's been tinkering in here before, how do I know if mine requires a washer or not?

Partsouq.com doesn't show one. The Gates replacement item didn't come with a new one......

I've just found a picture of the offending item...this picture is for a Discovery, but this is the shiny metal disc in question (not the washer also in the picture!).

It was definitely behind the pulley when I took it off.

Understood, thanks. I'm not sure about the old one, but the replacement is a Gates unit.

Well everything lined up and runs well without the metal cap. Success. One more job ticked off the list.

It didn't have a washer on mine when I replaced it.

In fact I replaced all the pulleys bar the crankshaft one.
