brakes binding
760 turbo estate.1990 with ABS
Been having this interneittent fault, Normally its the RHF brake but is now spreading!! THe caliper binds on slowly, it can happen after 6 miles, or 100! Its now spread to the LHF as both were on when i got home tonight, and earlier in the day the fronts were free but the rears were binding, in all cases so much so that the wheels are locked solid and i have to prise the caliper apart to releae the disc. I have 1) disconnected the servo, it still happen 2) tonight took out the fuse for the ABS but both front bound on. Anybody out therd heard of this. Can the ABS module still cause problems if the fuse is removed Is the serfvo leaking on slowy, but why does it only affect the one brake. I have renewed to seals in both fronts and the calipers were free moving It is drivng me nuts, so any suggestions on where to start looking would be helpful. as i said, after the rears decided to join the fun i thought it might have been the ABS unit, but the front come on even with it discon. also the fron RH coame on when i tried it with the servo disconnected Help!!!!! RE: brakes binding
Hi,
I've no experience of the ABS system as my 740 is older. However i have had problems with my front calipers, and it was down to the upper and lower pins/bolts on which the caliper slides in the mounting bracket to apply pressure on both pads. The rubber seals had split allowing the bolt and sleeve to corrode and jam, hence the caliper would lock rather than move cleanly from side to side. A quick strip down clean up and lots of copper ease on the bolt and sleeve and everything has been fine since. Could be a factor? As i said i don't know anything about the ABS system, for all i know the calipers could be completely different and what i've said irrelevant! This is likely as the rear calipers are fixed (don't slide like the fronts)and so can have nothing to do with your seized rears. All thebest Rich |

RE: brakes binding
May be the flexible brake hoses.
These can deteriorate internally over time and close up, eventually working like a one-way valve letting fluid through under pressure to the calipers but not letting it back under the much lower reverse pressure. Could be the problem if they are the originals.

RE: brakes binding
exactly the same took place on my friend's Peugeot 406 with ABS. the problem was there solved through flushing the hydraulic system...some kind of bad brake fluid, i guess...
