Default Thanks and Help Please....

Thanks everyone for your very constuctive and encouraging posts. You've given me far more confidence and ideas in how to advertise her on Auto Trader etc.

Before I advertise it further, I wonder if one of you would kindly PM "Aubergine S70" who has posted in "850/x70 Wants" that he is after an 850 T5 and my car seems to meet his wants pretty perfectly! I cannot PM him as I do not have 30 posts credit, so if someone could point out to him that my car is available I'd be really grateful.

You could maybe copy and paste this if it's easiest, thanks ever so.......

Hi, I'm sending you this on behalf of bg1175802 who has an 850 T5 for sale that seems to meet your requirements. You can find it in the "850/x70 Sales"

Just to update this thread, I bought this car from Brian yesterday, he was super nice and just as easy to deal with as he sounds in his listing.

The easiest of the few faults will be getting rectified in the next couple of months, but I will be asking a bit of forum advice along the way as I have been a few years out of 850 ownership.

Have to say the car was a lovely drive 4 hours home, it was really straining at the leash to go but i had to temper this with a gentle 67mph on the cruise control so as not to risk the ancient cambelt! However the net result of this was over 30mpg, which is what I used to easily achieve in a 5 speed manual 850 T5 back in the day, but not bad for a 27 year old auto.

First fix was the faded almost white bumper tops. As I keep saying to people faffing about with heat guns and paint; GTechniq C4 Trim Restorer is the bollocks and lasts years.

The car was spotted almost instantly on the driveway by another old car fanatic who asked if it was "another ULEZ refugee" which I thought was a great description. I'm sure Sadiq and his like-minded anti-car anti-people anti-joy cronies will ensure the shole country is afflicted eventually but in the meantime can Londoners please keep sending these lovelies up north.

By the way this car used to be owned by a Volvo Owners Club director 1997 - 2003, if hes still around, reg A8 VOC or VOL? I'll have to check.

Totally agree regarding Gtechniq C4 comments . I have used it for years and whilst it appears expensive for 15ml it does the job like no other.

Me too, it was (and is) a godsend through all the 40/50/60 SPECS bits on the Motorway.

The fact that it *sort of* worked is a question I'll be posing on the forum. Its an old pre-electronic throttle system that relies on engine vacuum, and at the 60-70 mark it was OK but trying to activate it below that was a bit hit and miss. Perhaps there is insufficient vacuum produced those speeds anyway, or perhaps it has small leak somewhere?

The worst problem is that the catalytic converter was stolen a couple of years ago (witness £400 items from Ebay sellers) and I think the whole exhaust was sadly junked for an Ebay cheapy.

This has resulted in a permanent Lambda light on the dash (long time since I saw one of those) and is overall just a shame given the quality and longevity of the Volvo originals. In good time and before the next MOT I will probably be getting a stainless custom build, but none of the ones I ever heard matches the lovely muted burble from the cast iron original.
