940 starting problem electrics
I am having problem with starting in the morning intermittently, worse when it is a damp morning
Car: 1992 2.3 turbo estate 940 Symptom: Out of gear, handbrake on, turn key in ignition to start, all the lights come on on the dash but the engine does not turn. I used to switch off and then back on and it would start or maybe not. It will always bump start and when I take it warm to the garage it starts no problem so they cannot fine the problem. I did wonder if it was the earth cable and attached a jump lead from the negative terminal to the body, it would not start, (it is always possible that it was not well attached as I was in a hurry and just bump started it after that on the hill I park on.) I would appreciate any input although I realise that once started the problem is no longer, so I need to test one of these autumnal mornings when the dew is heavy. Thank you, Jamie Taylor |

RE: 940 starting problem electrics
Check connections on back of ingnition switch and to solenoid on starter motor. Make sure that motor is bolted securely and that solenoid works whenever power applied to its terminal. I assume that your car has manual gearbox as you can bump start it. If it was an autobox the Park/Neutral switch would be at fault. All the best, Peter. |

RE: 940 starting problem electrics
Thanks for that, I did mean to say that there is no click from the starter motor as when it is stuck and needs rocking in gear. Indeed, I even changed the starter motor to ensure that was not the problem.
