Default Side steps bought...just need to fit now!

...shame I am heading in for another hip op on Monday.

After much searching, deliberating etc...a work colleague (thanks Calsonic!) dangled a carrot today & I couldn't resist any longer!

He was ordering side steps from FRF, for his XC and we were hoping that by combining our orders, for two lots, we could share the postage, making the overall cost slightly more palatable. As it turned out we still got spanked for costly carriage (appreciate that is not entirely FRFs doing)...but we still probably saved £80 each on buying locally.

I still harbour slim hopes I could fit this weekend (indeed the original idea was to help each other to fit them), failing that I will speak to my friendly local mechanic, in the hope it might just cost me 30mins to an hours labour.

As I can't drive for six weeks post op...I guess there is no great hurry !

Or you just prop up one end on a few blocks - I managed to do it by myself.

Takes about 20 mins to assemble the steps and thenn about 10 mins each side to fit (assuming suitable tools).
You can easliy do it solo with something to prop up the "other" end of the step as you fit them, as has been mentioned.
The biggest plus is that the ground clearance of the xc90 means it can be done without jacking/ramps.
TBH it's about as easy as it gets, get your spanners out

Good luck with the op.

Thanks guys...will see what we have time for this weekend !

Worst case I will pre-assemble & just leave the garage to do the bolt on bit.

Does anyone know if they can be fitted where mudflaps are already fitted or do they need to come off & go back on again?

You won't have to touch the mudflaps.
I pre-assembled the steps and fitted later, it's easier this way if you have the stick on rubber treads as they can be allowed to "go off" at room temperature and without the danger of rain.
Bolting to the car is probably easier than assembly.

Thanks mate

Maybe not if you have a dodgy hip like me...and are having a big op to try and fix things on Monday ! Recovery could be a long road back!

Do the treads come as standard?

Had my steps fitted a week ago...but still just got to look at them...as no driving for another 3.5 weeks yet!

I know know the rubber pads do come with them, but the garage didn't fit them, suggesting I wait to see where dirt/wear shows and place the there. That sounds like good advice. Is there a best way to fit these...obviously when the its dry/steps are clean, but temperature...maybe use a hair dryer? Unfortunately the original instructions didn't come back with the car, although I have a set printed from the net.

Must admit they look the dogs and I am glad I went for the OEM set.

I checked the instructions and there were precise measurements saying where to stick them,
so that's what I did and they all seem to be in the "right" place :-)

( Some Running boards supplied without the foot steps didn't have the
foot step fitting instructions and measurements - let me know if you need them :-)
