Exclamation Sheared a bolt head -how I get the bolt bit out with no head

Yeah so was fitting the rear seats in my v40 today (recently bought leathers to go in and was doing the last bolt up on the drivers side rear seat (so this is the small section) and blimin did it up too tight. One final turn and I sheared the bolt head off so now the threaded part of the bolt is stuck in the hole with no head!!

Being a seat, I can only use that hole to put the bolt into to hold the seat in place. At the moment the seat isn't really useable because if you lean back the seat falls back quite a bit....

So no one sitting in that seat until I get it sorted...

Can anyone offer any advise on this please?

thank you,

James

Take the seat out and use a dremel with a small cutting disk fitted to it to grind a slot in whats left of the bolt shank, next use an impact driver to get the bolt moving followed by a screwdriver once its freed off enough, get a new bolt and only torque load it to two white knuckles rather than five - Mike

1--some thread sticking out???---- get grips

2--any chance you can get to the thread from the other side???

3-- carefully drill the remainder out. start with very small drill as a guide.

4-- get something welded to the remainder of the thread.

---- apparently it is a front seat??? any way of wedging something underneath
so that it doesnt tilt????

being as you've sheared it by overtightening it should come out ok.my method would be to use an easy out as they're called or sometimes called a stud extractor. they are like a tap with a left hand flute on them so as you try to undue the flue drives itself in and draws the stud out.easy to use just drill a hole down the centre of the broken bolt, tap the easy in gently then get a tapwrench or similar on the square end of the extractor.fine for this type of shear but forget it if you've twisted the head off a rusted bolt.used them a few times with total success.good luck.

As mentioned your options are then drilling or you could try an 'easy out' or even a combination of both drilling with small drill bit and then get and easy out on the job.

thanks,
not sure if you can buy them individually or a set.a good tool shop should be able to advise if you can tell them the dia of the bolt you are trying to extract.dont bother with cheap chinese ones or you are liable to break that as well-made of chocolate lol!
good tools are not cheap unfortunately but generally cheap tools are no good.
