07 d5 185 XC90 won' start without esy start cam sensor issue
I bought this car after if had an engine swap done but the guy never got it started. When I plugged it in I got a 3000 code for cam sensor. I replaced with a new Bosch unit but made no difference. I appear to have a good ground and 5 v going in to the sensor. And when turning the engine I am getting a ground at the signal wire fluctuating obviously. I can't seem to find a decent wiring diagram for this car that shows voltages etc. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Which code reader have you used?
It's generally accepted that to get an accurate idea as to what is wrong you need to use Vida Dice which is essentially what the main dealers use. Plenty of members on here have one, see if someone in your vicinity can read the codes for you.👍

Do a cam and crank sensor timing correlation on a lab scope and work from there

I take it that he has put the correct Euro4 engine in rather than the earlier Euro 3 ?

It's most unlikely the cam sensor, though that's not to say that isn't faulty in some way.
If it will start and run on Easy Start then you most likely have a fuel pressure issue, could be sensor, regulator, pump, injector, when was the filter last changed? Suggest you read fuel pressure whilst cranking...

Update I got it to start with new glow plugs if I disconnect the coolant temperature sensor.
Does this engine have variable valve timing on the exhaust cam? If so how can I check it Thanks in advance |
