Default ETM Volvo C70

Hi

I have a Volvo C70 2.00 T registered in 2000 on a w reg plate it has just covered 61,000 miles and I am the 3rd owner how do I find out if it has an ETM issue and what is the cost should it fail as it appears that everyone expects it to happen by 100,000 miles. I love the Car although I did test a Volvo C70 2.000Trag top the other day only to be dissapointed by its ride even though it was only 2 years old and 14,000 miles on the clock.

I didn't know about the ETM issue until I joined this forum the other day which gave real meaning to the saying Ignorance is Bliss!!!

Just to give you a little bit of comfort and hope: I have a W Reg 2000 V70 Classic with the original ETM and 120000 miles on the clock, which I bought over three years ago at 105000 miles. Needless to say I am also a little concerned and waiting for the dreaded failure, which I am assured will happen one of these days.
I am advised that wear on the ETM is in part dependent on how it is driven. long journeys with less throttle movement cause less wear than local trips.
You should also check whether the free software upgrade has been done, this is supposed to limit the future wear of the thick films.
I believe that the cost, when it does fail, is £600 to £800. Painful!
Good luck

Hi,

Just to advise, there is a post in this section with a photo of the pre-fail ETM module. The exchanged on has a yellow lable on it and not the original white lable..

Take heart too in the fact that the cost has seemingly dropped to about £250..
However, don't let that stop you sueing the dealer AND Volvo UK to get that £250 back.
Do it in the local CC and you should succeed...

Des. . .
