I'm not being "nasty" or so, but why have a diesel if you don't even do the mileage a year to justify the lower long term fuel costs?

It's fine, no offence taken.
My previous car was a diesel and, like the volvo I currently own, it wasn't purchased as a diesel for fuel-saving costs.
With regards to the volvo, I saw it online at a main dealer and liked the spec it had with extra options added. I'd still have purchased it if it had been petrol.
The price and spec were the main points for me.
