Default S40 roof bars advice

As title says

Looking at getting some roof bars for my s40
I know its pretty limited to what can fit but basically need them so i can fit a bike carrier
Seen a few genuine volvo 1s but seen some that have been listed for volvo and they been on a s60 but look the same as the genuine s40 ones ive seen
Can any one shed any light on if they will fit or not
Thanks simon

you need Volvo specifc roof bars. within the door frame of your car there are little holes at the top, the roof bar clamps fit into these to hold things steady. The Volvo branded roof bars I think are pretty much Thule?

anyway they will be better than any of the cheeper ones as their profile for wind resistance is much better. I have a pair of the Volvo ones, picked them up on ebay for £80 for with 2 bike mounts, brilliant roof rack and wouldn't get anything less.

Either go Volvo OEM or Thule. Thule's online configurator will give you the correct parts then you can buy online (Amazon or specialists).

I had both when I had and S40 and they were both good. I believe Thule manufactured the Volvo OEM ones anyway.

I've had a set of whispbars on mine for the past 2.5 years, they are pretty much silent so I leave them on permenently.

i recently picked up some second hand genuine roof bars for my s40, cost was £25, fit well and very quiet with nothing on them (used with a *roof box down to the south of spain)

one thing to note about the genuine ones (might be the same with aftermarket)

they ruin the air flow that usually clears the rear window, so if raining you will be unable to see out of it with the rear bar installed.

i do not leave them on all the time, as my car is silver, it looks like i have three spoilers with nothing on them. also the lack of rear window being cleared.

*to avoid possible questions in the future, roof box was a mont blanc, vista 320.

very nice looking S40 there DEdge, try using some water replant stuff on the rear windscreen that should help keep it clear.

I use the below which is very good and lasts quite some time once on, barely have to use the wipers in the rain as the water just flies off

https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/29180061687...7251143&crdt=0

Rear of the car stays pretty clear as well, as long as your moving the rain drops just roll off

thanks domhart

i use the same on my rear and front screen, brilliant stuff. just when the roof bars are on, even just by themselves, the rear screen never clears.

hmm that's weird, I have exactly the same bars and doesn't happen to me. Just to add I always have bike stands on mine ... so maybe that prevents it.

either way that's a nice looking S40 there
