LED DRL on 2008 V50
Can I install day running lights (LED) where the fog lights are on my 2008 V50 and have them on rather than the headlamps?
I searched the forum and found someone has done this and provided a link but unfortunately the link no longer works. Anyone got any info on doing this? I'd rather have DRL on where the dogs are with my headlamps switched off during the day. |

You can, but you will have to visit the dealer to have the light switched off in position 0 - Not all dealers are willing to upload the software required; 30679690, Low beam 2 application

Can a specialist with vida do it or is it only a main dealer? And is it a simple case of putting led lights in where the fog lights are then a dealer/specialist telling the computer which you want on and don't want on?

You would need to install new wiring and an appropriate control relay for the LED DRL's - the fog light wiring cannot be adapted to run DRL's.
Remember you need a relay so that the DRL's are extinguished or dimmed if the dipped beams are on.

Not complicated at all, and you will only need a £5 relay and a simple wiring to have it done legally.
Volvo software can only be installed with a valid subscription and Dice. The Chinese clones will not let you do this. OEM daylights, part # 31330687 can be purchased from the breaker or on eBay. The foglight with LEDs would not be legal. And here is the wiring diagram I used: |

Thanks for this. So you have put DRL's on yours then? Which bit are you saying wouldn't be legal?
What sort of place could do this for me, would it need to all be done at a dealer? |

If you put LED-bulbs in your fog-lights, like many does, then they will not be legal DRL's. Get the ones from a 2011- P1 and XC70; Left # 31383204 and Right # 31383205 - or third party DRL's. Check for instance eBay for availability.
Check this Swedespeed thread about an S80 with retrofitted DRL's. The ones from a 2011-2013 Skoda Fabia fits with some modifications, and probably others with the right diameter could be used as well. |
