Default Faulty shock absorber

Hi

Driving home last week & heard a knocking from the rear nearside corner of my 2008 c30 2.0d R-dezign. When I got home I noticed the rear nearside shock absorber was flapping about. Checking closer I can see that the aluminium support housing for the shock absorber has broken away from the two securing bolts. It is a simple home fix (I'm quite good mechanically) that can be done easily & quickly with minimal tools?
Do I just need the new support or is it likely the shock absorber is damaged beyond repair too. I have seen a few secondhand shock absorber assemblies available on ebay with the aluminium support bracket already attached. Also is it best to replace as a pair or individual ones ok. Are these shock absorber assemblies identical throughout the c30 model range and other volvo models? Are they the same as fitted to Ford models?
Any & all help appreciated as always

It is quite easy to replace by yourself. Just follow the steps provided by this fellow on you tube?
In regard with the parts needed, you can go either way, used or new. If you want to keep your car longer I ll go with completely new components. the rear strut mounting (aluminum support) on eBay is £20 + dust covers £18, shock absorbers around £50 & you have both rear shock absorbers done.

I see you have c30, it could be the same as V50, I do not know.
