C70 '06 Door 'shut' sensor?
How does the C70 'know' when the door is shut?
I assume there is some sensor which is triggered when the door is fully closed, which in turn triggers the window to wind up that last cm or so. Situation is that on opening the door, the window drops a cm, but on closing the door, the window often fails to wind up, unless it is repeatedly opened and shut again. Sometimes the door will not lock when using the interior door switches. The alarm also goes off, usually in response to a loud vibration outside (e.g passing lorry). I have opened the door panel and cleaned every push-fit connector I could find, which seemed to improve matters somewhat. But I have no idea where the 'door closed' sensor is located. I suspect it may simply be a dodgy connector or a duff sensor. Bright ideas welcome! |

It's a micro switch in the door latch which detects the latch position.
You can test it by moving the latch tongue when the door is open. When the micro switches start to fail they get intermittent with many strange symptoms. As the switch is generally inside the door latch, you need to replace the entire door latch incl. switch. But check in VIDA...

Excellent! Thank you very much.
From what I've just read, on the basis of your reply, it sounds like latch testing (and replacement) might be best done by my local (independent) Volvo specialist, who'll also be able to use VIDA. However, I also found info about lock tongues sticking, and so needing lubrication. That might also explain why the window has been known to wind up on its own after a few minutes (if the latch gradually sets to the correct position). So I suppose my first step might be some WD40 squirted into the latch from the outside, followed by light oil if it seems to help. Might save some $$$... Thanks again, Swiss. |

Hi,
I had problems with the driver's door latch on my C70. If lubrication doesn't solve it, I ended up replacing mine with a used door latch from a C30( plently on ebay), I think it was only about £30 from memory. It's a very fiddly job, I took mine to a local Volvo indy who fitted it for cash. Took him about an hour or do. Hope this helps Andy |

Update:
Bought a new lock, fitted (by tame volvo indie) a month ago. Door has since locked, unlocked, with window upping and downing on closing and opening, (don't want to jinx this) apparently reliably.
