Default Another(!) Bonnet release question

Hi all, I have a 2005 V50 - the bonnet will not release. The cable feels a bit strange: it is loose initially, then feels very tight. I have tried pressing down on the bonnet while pulling the lever, as well as prying the bonnet up while pulling the lever. It doesn’t want to budge, and I don’t think the cable has snapped.

I’ve taken the grille out to see if I can access the latch mechanism, however the radiator slam panel is in the way so I can’t access it easily. Are the bolts that are visible when the grille is out able to be loosened to release the whole mechanism so that I can get in to the bonnet?

Failing that, is there a way for me to access the latch mechanism easily?

Thanks, this is doing my head in!

Take the under-engine splash guard off, put car on a lift and see if you can get a stiff wire up to hoot into the latch mechanism from under the car.
