I have a D5 and it is a cracker and to boot it has no DPF but the timing belt needs to be changed every 100K or 6 years which ever comes first. Quoted £600 from Volvo for that service.
I was interested to hear you say that the D5 has no DPF. My 08 D5 often seems to go into sone sort if DPF regen mode with poor fuel consumption as diesel is injected down the exhaust. I had read that the DPF in the D5 doesnt require Eolys fluid to work due to the higher exhaust temperatures of the D5 cf the 2.0D, but I'm sure it has some sort of DPF as the exhaust gases are just too clean! My old 130PD used to leave clouds of soot on boost!

D5's had DPF's without EOLYS. 2.0D was the only real dirty bugger without one on many if it did then it had a wet eolys DPF system.

regarding the v50 most cars are utterly complex these days have many things to go wrong i have had more horror stories increasing with many cars and tbh at least it is not a BMW that can go missing without the keys.

DMF if driven properly is not a real headache it happens many cars because they all tend to be from other suppliers that manufacture them so you see them in many cars.

regarding aircon condenser is probable.

I would prefer a list of common faults than no faults where a dealership has to trace it.

put it this way i have had only one real fault with mine which was the famous throttle body on the 2.0D was i angry annoyed yes did it bother me a little but in reality i have done 28K in her since i got my c30 and i have loved many of the miles in her is there better cars probably, is the steering possibly a bit wooly as some put it yes, could i give a **** about the faults people list these days i have heard people moan that the c30 only has three doors how blind do you have to be honestly!

Also, i would like to remind you that any problems on a forum are naturally going to extended and make a car look bad because that is what people tend to report problems.

Hello,

On auto trader there are some great buys - two petrels stick out: the 2.4i models are great value and there is a 2.0 petrol - an 08 plate SE Lux with 100000 miles in it for £4,495.

Worth considering?

even then with the DPF and eolys as long as you look after the car and drive it properly using right oil and fuel you should not have a problem.

i prefer the old system if you drive a lot in city centers.

Default v50 gearboxes

thanks for the replies and thoughts.

have been searching around, but cant find a definitive answer to which gearboxes were fitted to 55/06 2.0dse. the m66 has been mentioned, but not seen a reference to anything other than ford.

was a vauxhall / other gearbox used on some builds?

if so, why are they so much more expensive than the m66?

how would i know what ive got fitted?

would a volvo indi with access to voda/vodis/tardis whatever it is, be able to tell from the vin what parts are fitted to an individual car, therefore be able to give a quote without having to strip the dmf out before an accurate quote could be given?

less p**d off than last night given some of the replies re complexity of modern cars, faults on most modern cars and worst cases being posted on here.

if the dmf was replaced and looked after, would you expect to get more than 50k miles from it, or is it just 'pot luck' and budget for £1400 every 50k miles?

tia

I've had my 55 plate s40 for nearly 2years now and put about 32k on it and the dmf clutch engine etc has given no problems at all. is had the usual wheel bearings though (3), alternator and dealer fixed the anti skid service before I collected it. Its now on110k whilst I don't know if its had the dmf etc replaced in the past I'm am happy enough with it and would expect no problems from it provided it is driven properly ie not at stupidly low revs or moving off at tick over. I would expect that someone who has gone for a diesel and barely pit any miles on it may not have driven it the way it should have been and the low mileage may have been a negative rather than a positive.
