Default Which Tyres?

Hello,

Next week I'm collecting the V50 I'm that I'm buying and will be replacing two of the tyres...

Two questions:

1) Does anyone have tyres that they'd recommend as well suited to a V50? The car has 17" wheels if that effects the ones to choose...

2) The size of the current tyres are 205/50/R17 I've checked out the prices and in this size they're all VERY expensive (even at blackcircles)... Can I use a different size? What effect would it have if I did? Would it be safe?

Thanks, James :0)

go to camskill lot cheaper then get a place to fit them or go to event tyres they come to you

my personal choice would be michelin Pilot Sport 3's and yes they definitely do them in 205/50 R17 93W... http://camskill.co.uk/m54b0s304p6929...R17_93W_XL_TL_

i know they are not cheap (although this the cheapest way to get them on as some places you will them at about £170-180 per corner!) but treat them well they last well and give your a good ride and grip that you would not believe it is like superglue.

Even my wheel refurber a go karting/racing type uses them on his humble pug 307SW.

NB i did have them all round for a fair few K before a puncture so that made me sad to see them go from the front but they are still my recommendation for ultimate grip alone the car was amazing on them.

trust me i went from the standard P7's to these and it transformed the C30 (still P1 car) and the feeling was much better through the wheel.

i can highly recommend Avon ZV5s just had 2 fitted at national tyres for £172 in 225 45 17 on my V70, if your running 7.5" wide wheel you could go 235 45 17 these tyres are a fair bit cheaper

good price but i would never trust National Tyres even more so after my refurb, although the franchises do vary some are terrible. National always go avon and have offers but i can hand on heart say that they are no where in comparison with michelins and contis and that is from my wheel refurbing guy.

If you do think of changing your tyre size check the speed rating and load rating to, especially check with your insurers some might consider this a change of factory spec, therefore a modification.

Barum Bravuris 2 - they are a cheap tyre made by continental

i thought id test them out after i had them fitted on the front so threw the car into a few corners and it just grips now! the old falkens were RUBBISH in comparison!

highly recommended!

the guy at national tyres actually recommend them and showed me his audi.. he had them on all 4 corners.

I got Falken 912s on 18s, when they were brand spanking they were a bit timid in the wet, got a mil or so off them and they transformed though. Were only £120 from my local fitters (£20 cheaper than Blackcircles!) so should be under a ton in 17s

I put a set of four Avon ZZ3 tyres sized 225 45 17 on my V70 about a month ago and they transformed the car, it no longer crashes and rattles when you hit potholes, the whole car handles better, cost me £367 fitted at Black Circle - Mike

If you use Camskill or the like, some tyre shop's are not to happy with fitting them, you really should check this out before you order, my local guy can match Camskill so it's always worth asking.

The PilotSport3 has softer sidewall's than the P7 as it's a comfort tyre rather than provding the most grip, problem with the PS3 it snap's out without providing any (feel) warning.

If it were me I'd go Hankook or Kumho if on a budget. .

PS3 a comfort tyre in comparison with a P7? are you having a laugh? or is that a typo or me reading it wrong as i believe that is what your statement is saying?

the ps3 had/has way more feel in comparison than the p7...i also think in some ways you would struggle without doing something utterly stupid to reach the limits of a modern tyre.

Also if i believe what i believe, your end line would be exactly like another post on another forum.
