v50 central locking problem
Hi guys, i have had my v50 r design for 3 years on a 08 plate. had no probs in my ownership and it really is a great car for the labradors in the boot and my kiddy in the back but ,,,,i have now experienced a problem with my key fobs. they dont work. changed the battery in both ,,,nothing and then to make matters worse the blade key in the only outside lock (drivers door) turns but does not activate the lock . so i called the volvo breakdown assistance out ( free of charge courtesy of my bank) who came out tested both the keys which only one is sending out a frequency but still does not open the car.!!! so he breaks in to the v50 result im in!!!! using the blade key with the door open it locks the door but does not unlock. also BOTH keys still starts the car. so if anyone can shed any light on what i need to do here any advise would be greatly received. thanks in advance

If both keys are playing up would think it most likely be the alarm module best bet would be to get someone with vida near by to plug it in and check for any codes. Good luck. |

Volvo key fobs are actually THREE keys bound together.
VIDA will report back as to exactly what part of this system is malfunctioning |

I would also be grateful for an update on this - I have a 2009 V50 and my keyfob has suddenly just stopped working.
This is the second time this has happened - I had to get the dealer to replace one of the fobs that came with the car, as that was not working either. |

As a reference, In Ireland is 180 euro without the blade, with blade is 230 euro. I found one in a car dismantle place, I want to change the housing only.

to mickmaxter and elsmandino - just out of curiosity, what engines do you have? Fob loosing frequency to the car is not uncommon, but mostly on 1.6D, just wondering if your case is the same?

I have a 1.8 petrol.
Unfortunately (or fortunately), as I did not have to pay for the original key replacement, I was never told exactly how much it cost. Figures seem to vary but I have read that the price is not proportionate to the costs of the key itself and the reprogramming. It is indeed odd that keys are just losing their ability to work the central locking, but yet are not technically broken. I have read a number of threads, elsewhere, that suggest that you can re-set them with a battery disconnect/reconnect, whilst the ignition is in the second position. This doesn't seem to make sense - i.e. I don't understand how a key can lose this ability and yet gain it again, without anything being replaced, but is certainly worth trying. |
