Default V50 2005 Brakes!

Had the car in for an MOT today, failed on front brakes fluctuating. Thought that there would be an issue with the brakes, as sometimes on start up, the brake pedal hardly moves and I would guess that the servo is not working. Within a few yards all is OK.

Car going back next Saturday to be looked at. I'd assume that the mot brake failure is linked to the servo problem, any thoughts anyone?

I think much more car details are needed to establish how your system is setup.
I bet it's not the same for all versions of V50.

the car has a vacuum pump which is driven from the camshaft. unlike petrol versions which take the vacuum from the manifold.

If it IS a vacuum problem there was a recall for the one way valve on the outlet pipe of the vacuum pump ... might be worth changing the valve if in doubt . The alloy scew in pipe on the pump which the main vacuum pipe fits to . ( alloy 22mm spanner i think )

I told the MOT people about the ongoing servo problem, but, it tunred out that the discs were warpedcausing the brake fluctuation.

I'll look into what you said about the vacuum pump, thank you.

Seems to be external temperature related, hardly happens in summer!

If it had been the vacuum pump the failure would have been very specific - i.e. no vacuum servo assistance.

Fluctuations are usually warped discs and easy ti fix with new discs and pads.
