Default DPF gone?

So after my "reduced engine performance" warning, i took i to mt local garage today, he has done two forced regens on DPF and added fuel cleaner and told me drive it for couple days and go back if still not sorted itself. The warning goes out when turn engine off and back on and if i pootle about at low revs stays off, but when i put foot down it goes back in to "reduced engine performace" mode. My question is, if the DPF had gone, would the car not always be in the reduced mode, and does this sound like my DPF is need changed?
I have done 55k miles, and it is a 1.6 r-design s40 2010

The DPF has a pressure sensor which monitors the difference in pressure between the inlet and the exit to the DPF. The greater the pressure, the more blocked it is, so if it's partially blocked it will start to show up only when the engine is worked hard and the restriction becomes a bigger issue.

Forced re-generations can improve it but the best way is a long motorway run - 50+ miles at 70mph.

If your chap connects a decent code reader it should tell him exactly what's wrong - I'm not sure on the later 8v 1.6D's but on the earlier 16v when the DPF is blocked you get "ENGINE SERVICE" rather than "REDUCED PERFORMANCE" error which makes me suspect it is more likely to be a leak in the intake system (boost leak).

Cheers. When i take it on any sory of run the reduced mode comes on though, so that still ok running it for a distance ?
If it is the boost leak, how serious is that? Sorry for my lack of mechanical knowledge

You need to get the codes read. We could guess all day and have you spends thousands of non required fixes. I get a feeling that's what your local garage is already doing!

To be completely clear you need to get the codes read using VIDA/DICE (the proper Volvo diagnostic kit). Generic code readers are unlikely to pinpoint the exact issue.

You either need to take it to a Volvo garage or a Volvo specialist with VIDA. Failing that you need to find a friendly local forum member that has a VIDA kit.

Just to clarify when I said decent code reader I was meaning Volvo VIDA or a high-end commercial reader that is Volvo compatible - i.e. not a £30 from e-bay....

Do you have the D2 engine with 6 gears?

When I had that error message and DPF sensor fault codes, it ended up being the pipes coming off the DPF rather than the DPF itself.

Like others have said though, you really need it hooked up to Vida/Dice to see what the problem is.

yes that's the model. Going back in today to see what story is, If it is the pipes are they just rubber and a simple repair?

cheers.
Turns out it was a crack in the hose leading to DPF so was throwing up DPF fault codes. Me guy found it and now all fixed and running sweet, for £80 instead of the hundreds a new DPF would have cost
